Punjab Government Initiates Grand Guru Ravidass Parkash Purab Festivities
Punjab has embarked on a historic spiritual journey as the state government officially commenced year-long celebrations marking the 650th Parkash Purab of Guru Ravidass Ji Maharaj. The festivities were launched at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib, the sacred birthplace of the revered saint, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann leading the state Cabinet in paying homage.
Institutional Commitment to Social Equality
Chief Minister Mann emphasized that the celebrations reflect more than religious observance. The government has positioned Guru Ravidass’s teachings on equality and social justice at the core of its governance philosophy. This commitment manifests through various welfare schemes, including cashless healthcare coverage up to Rs 10 lakh for all families.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, heading the cabinet subcommittee for the celebrations, stated that the objective extends beyond traditional commemorations. The government aims to propagate Guru Ravidass’s message of brotherhood, compassion, and human dignity across every village in Punjab.
Infrastructure and Educational Integration
The state government has undertaken significant infrastructure development to honor the spiritual legacy. The memorial at Khuralgarh Sahib represents architectural excellence while serving as a center for devotees nationwide. Additionally, academic research chairs will ensure scholarly examination of Guru Ravidass’s philosophy continues for generations.
Deputy Speaker Jai Kishan Rori thanked the Chief Minister for launching the celebrations from Khuralgarh Sahib itself, ensuring authenticity and spiritual connection. Cabinet ministers Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Harjot Singh Bains, and Lal Chand Kataruchak participated in the inaugural ceremonies alongside numerous religious leaders from various spiritual establishments.
Cultural and Social Outreach
The year-long program includes systematic outreach to educational institutions statewide. Students will learn about Guru Ravidass’s contributions to social reform, his advocacy for the marginalized, and his vision of an egalitarian society free from discrimination.
The Sant Samaj’s presence during the launch ceremonies demonstrated broad religious community support. Heads from over a dozen deras and religious establishments attended, with the chief minister acknowledging their guidance in shaping the celebration programs.
Future Outlook
The celebrations beginning now will build momentum toward the landmark 650th Parkash Purab in 2027. The government has assured that financial constraints will not limit the scale of observances, with all directions from the Sant Samaj receiving full implementation.
This initiative follows the state’s recent commemoration of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur, demonstrating consistent dedication to preserving Punjab’s spiritual heritage. The celebrations also include the recent naming of Adampur Airport after Guru Ravidass, linking modern infrastructure with spiritual legacy.
Punjab’s comprehensive approach to honoring Guru Ravidass reflects a modern government’s commitment to timeless spiritual values. By integrating education, infrastructure, and cultural programs, the state ensures that the saint’s message of equality reaches contemporary society meaningfully.
